Top 5 April Fool Pranks on Two Wheels

April Fool’s day of this year recently passed and while some brands chose to refrain themselves from the tradition owing to the pandemic, the others as usual published humorous and quirky content of initiatives or new product launches that were hilariously fake but fun to read nonetheless. This is something we’ve grown accustomed to over the years and amidst this pandemic, a bit of an anticipated comic relief as well.

While the gags of popular brands such as Ola’s “Air Pro” electric flying car and Burger King’s “Chocolate Whooper”, (not a prank although seeming like it) surely tickled the funny bone this year, I was curious to know if the motorcycle world took part in the joke too and if so, what were the most impressive April Fool’s pranks that were pulled in the past.

I did a little digging and here are my top 5 picks from the pile. You can click on the images to check out the source article if interested.

5.) BMW Motorrad iParts

Imagine you’re on an off-road adventure and the terrain is particularly unforgiving. You stretch your motorcycle beyond its limits and you hear the clank of something breaking. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could replace the broken part then and there instead of getting stranded in the middle of nowhere?

With the BMW Motorrad’s iParts mobile 3D printer you can 3D print small parts such as clutch levers and valve caps on the go. Introduced on April 1st 2018, it can be easily stowed away in the top pannier and can be used using your mobile phone connected to the internet

4.) Toto – Africa Twin

Doble Motorcycles, a Honda Dealership in the UK made an announcement on April 1st, 2018 that since all the four members were huge fans of the motorcycle brand, they had collaborated with the American rock band “Toto” to release limited edition units of the Honda CRF1000 Adventure Sport motorcycle also known as the “Africa Twin”, as part of its 30th anniversary celebration. Of course, this was a chuckle worthy attempt at a pun on one of the band’s most famous songs -'Africa'.

3.) Husqy Musq Body Wash for Men

If you’re a fan of the old two strokes and if there’s nothing more you’d like than to smell like our motorcycle in the morning, then the Swedish motorcycle brand Husqvarna’s body wash is the right product for you. Released on April 1st 2019, it comes in two alluring fragrances – Meadow Musq: Two stroke with fresh cut grass & Mountain Musq: Two stroke with notes of pine, bar and chain oil.

2.) Triumph Rocket Mode Thrusters

On April 1st 2019, the iconic Triumph Rocket 3 TFC (Triumph Factory Custom) motorcycle received an intriguing “hybrid technology” accessory update from the British manufacturer – two 1000hp jet engines fitted to its exhaust, the purpose of which the company claimed was to "beat out anything else in a straight line, including up!". The social media post came complete with a gif of the thrusters in action, looking like something out of the Fast and the Furious movie.

1.) Kawasaki Supercharged Jet Ski

We all know that the Kawasaki Ninja H2R is the fastest production motorcycle on the planet at present. Well, on 1st April 2018, Kawasaki announced the Ninja H20, the ‘world’s first aquatic hyperbike’. Apparently, its Super Thrust Reverse Impeller (STRI) technology enables the supercharger to act as a water jet propulsion system and the H20 can easily transition between 'Road Mode' and 'Water Mode' at the push of a button. It also has a bespoke GPS system that navigates you to the coast and even beyond to map the fastest route. While this is an interesting concept, I cannot confirm if they were inspired by Dhoom 3 for this idea.
